What corrosive substances do you transport under Class 9?
We transport environmentally hazardous substances, safety devices, magnetised materials, and lithium batteries under Class 9 across Western Europe.
More information
Class 9 is a catch-all category for dangerous goods that don't fit neatly into classes 1 through 8. The most frequently shipped Class 9 goods in general freight are environmentally hazardous substances - liquids and solids that present a hazard to the aquatic environment - followed by safety devices such as airbags and seatbelt pretensioners, and magnetised materials. We also carry lithium batteries (UN 3480, 3481, 3090, 3091) subject to compliance with applicable quantity limits, state of charge requirements, and packaging specifications.
Can Class 9 goods travel with other cargo?
In most cases yes - Class 9 goods have relatively straightforward segregation requirements compared to other ADR classes. Compatibility is assessed on a per-shipment basis.
More information
Environmentally hazardous substances and safety devices generally have few segregation restrictions and can travel alongside most other cargo types. Magnetised materials require separation from certain sensitive equipment and cargo. Lithium batteries have specific segregation requirements depending on their state of charge and quantity. All compatibility is assessed when you submit your load details - we flag the options and plan accordingly.
Do you carry lithium batteries?
Yes - we carry lithium ion and lithium metal batteries both alone and in equipment (UN 3480, 3481, 3090, 3091), subject to ADR packaging and quantity requirements.
More information
Lithium batteries are among the most strictly regulated Class 9 goods. UN 3480 (lithium ion batteries transported alone) requires state of charge not exceeding 30% for certain quantities. All lithium battery shipments must meet packaging specifications, quantity limits per package, and marking requirements under ADR. If you are unsure whether your specific battery shipment meets the requirements for road transport, contact us before booking - we will assess suitability and confirm.

Environmentally hazardous substances - Class 9

Environmentally hazardous substances are among the most commonly shipped Class 9 goods in Western European freight – chemicals, oils, and industrial substances that present a significant hazard to the aquatic environment if released during transport.

Class 9 environmentally hazardous substances come in two forms – liquids (UN 3082) and solids (UN 3077). Both require correct UN marking on packaging, environmentally hazardous substance marks on the outer packaging, and a correctly completed transport document specifying the technical name of the substance alongside the proper shipping name.

Despite being one of the less visually dramatic hazard classes, environmental hazardous substance shipments are subject to full ADR compliance requirements. Incorrect documentation or unmarked packaging can result in significant delays at borders and during roadside checks.

We handle Class 9 environmentally hazardous substance shipments weekly across Western Europe. All vehicles are correctly placarded, all documentation is prepared in-house, and all drivers hold full ADR certificates.

Safety devices & magnetised materials - Class 9

Safety devices – Airbags, seatbelt pretensioners, and other pyrotechnic safety devices are classified as Class 9 dangerous goods due to the explosive charge they contain. They move regularly through automotive supply chains across Western Europe – from component manufacturers to assembly plants and aftermarket distributors.

Safety devices are transported in their original manufacturer packaging, which is designed to meet ADR requirements. All shipments are correctly marked, placarded, and documented. We handle safety device shipments on full truckload tautliner trailers across all eight countries in our network.

Magnetised materials are classified as Class 9 because their magnetic field can interfere with aircraft navigation instruments – making correct identification and documentation important even though the ground transport risk is relatively low. Industrial magnets, magnetic assemblies, and certain electronic components fall into this category.

We carry magnetised materials on full truckload tautliner trailers. All shipments are correctly identified, marked, and documented in accordance with ADR requirements.

85 trucks, all ours, all ADR-certified. One contract, one liable party, full chain of custody from loading to delivery.

Class 9 cargo covers a wide range of goods with varying segregation and documentation requirements.
